Word Sport Definition
Makio INL Skater riders with front foot soul, back foot grabbed. Created by a Japanese skater name Makio. The topside variation is called Fishbrain, created in 1995 by Tom Fry.
Manual BMX Where a rider does a wheelie across the top deck before returning to the ramp.
Manual SKT Another name for Wheelie.
Mcegg SNB An invert where the rider plants the front hand on the wall, rotated 540 degrees in a backside direction and lands riding forward.
McMetz MTX Double, simultaneous Saran wraps. Both legs pass through the arms simultaneously and both arms release at the same time to allow the legs to pass back through to the foot pegs.
Mctwist SKT A 540 degree turn performed on a ramp. Named after Mike McGill.
Mctwist SNB An inverted aerial where the rider performs a 540 degree rotational flip. The rider approaches the halfpipe wall riding forward, becomes airborne, rotates 540 degrees in a backside directions while performing a front flip and lands riding forward.
Melonchollie SNB The front hand reaches behind the front leg and grabs the heel edge in-between the bindings while the front leg is boned.
Method SNB The front hand grabs the heel edge, both knees are bent, and the board is pulled up behind the rider. In the halfpipe, the rider's body can become almost parallel with the ground.
Michalchuk SNB Mike Michalchuk's signature halfpipe trick, self-described as my backside flip - sort of like an inverted backside 540 or a backflip backside 540". Essentially a backside rodeo.
Miller flip SNB An invert where the halfpipe wall is approached riding forward, the front hand is planted, a 360 degree frontside rotation is made, and the rider lands riding fakie.
Miller flip INL A backflip with 360 turn degree turn.
Mistrial INL A skater rides with the front foot soul, back foot on the outside plate with toes turning out. The topside variation is called an Overpuss for the exposure it gives to the skaters pelvic area, the reverse topside variation is called Misfit.
Misty SNB Can also be used as an adjective to describe a spin that gets a bit sideways ( somewhere between upright and inverted).
Misty flip SNB Partially inverted bacside spin. Named by Ali Goulet.
Misty flip INL A move first popularized by Ryan Jacklone. The move involves a front somersault with a 540 spin.
Miszou INL A grind with the front skate in the soul position, and the back skate perpendicular to the rail or obstacle. A few years ago, the Miszou was the trick of choice for transferring from one rail to another, usually to frontside. Miszou is Japanese for water.
Moguls ETC Skiers are judged on how they ski a mogul run, including two mandatory air offs which skiers perform tricks. Pro mogul competitions have racers competing head to head in an elimination format.
Monocoque SNB A form of integrated structural design that used the outermost material or skin to bear the load of strength of an object. To reduce weight and enhance torsional rigidity and edge responsiveness and eliminate the need for separate sidewall material.
Mute SNB The front hand grabs the toe edge either between the toes, and front leg is boned out.
Mute INL A crossed-grab air.
Nac Nac MTX Rider brings one leg over the rear fender to the other side of the bike, as if he's dismounting in mid-air.
Natural INL The direction that the skater feels best performing a trick, right skate forward or left skate forward.
No Hander Lander MTX Landing a jump with no hands on the bars.
No-Footer/No-Hander BMX Any air pulled without feet/hands touching the bike.
Nollie MULTI Much like an Ollie only you spring off of your nose instead of your tail.
Nollie frontflip SNB Springing off of the nose while going off a jump and leaning forward, allows you to do a frontflip.
Nose bonk SNB To hit an object with the nose of the board.
Nose grab SNB The front hand grabs the nose of the board.
Nose poke SNB Any maneuver where you bone your front leg and "poke" the nose of the board in a direction away from your body. Usually while grabbing.
Nose slide MULTI Sliding on the nose of board on the edge of an obstacle like a handrail, ledge, or ramp lip.
Nose Wheelie BMX Where a rider rides the front wheel while the back wheel is in the air.
Nosegrind SKT Just the front truck is grinding.
Nothing BMX When a rider fully lets go of his bike with his hands and feet in the air so that no part of his body is touching the bike.
Nuclear air SNB The rear hand reaches across the front of the body and grabs the heel edge in front of the front foot.
Ole ETC A rider rotates with the handle over head.
Ollie SNB A method to obtain air by first lifting the front foot then lifting the rear foot as you spring off of the tail.
Ollie SKT A no handed air performed by tapping the tail of the board on the ground or ramp surface. Named after Alan Gelfend.
One-Footer/One-Hander BMX Any air pulled with one foot/hand off of the bike.
One-Handed Superman MTX Superman with one hand off the handlebars and grabbing the rear fender.
Open mold SNB A form that is used to assemble and hold the parts of a snowboard during the pressing process that allows the expansion and bleeding of the bonding.
Palmer SNB A kind of method where the grab is near the nose, the board is pulled across the front of the body, and the nose is pointed downward. Named after Shaun Palmer.
Parabolic ETC A super sidecut ski intended to make skiing easier for beginners.
Phillips 66 SNB An invert where the rider approaches the halfpipe wall riding fakie, plants the rear hand on the lip of the wall while doing a "front flip " and lands on the transition riding forward.
Pick BMX Where a rider balances one part of his bike on their coping, stalling for a moment before returning to the ramp. Usually involves stalling on the front tire (Nose) or either front or back or both pegs.
Ply SNB Short for plywood. The most commonly used material for the deck. Usually seven layer ply.
Poptart SNB Airing from fakie to forward in the halfpipe without rotation.
Pornstar INL Skater riders with the front foot soul, back foot on outside of grindplate with toes pointing in. This trick was purportedly named by Brooke HOward Smityh and is probably the only trick that Brooke has not named after a Mortal Kombat character.
Pre-jump ETC A maneuver in which the skier jumps before reaching the crest of a bump so that his trajectory follows the contour of the bump, resulting in less air and more speed.
Pre-peg fiberglass SNB A stiff sheet of fiberglass previously treated with epoxy resin. Used as an alternative to fiberglass. Generally a matter of manufacturer's production progress.
Ptex SNB One of several names for the plastic base material used on boards.
Quadratic sidecut SKT To soften the transition from the entrance to the exit of a turn and provide a more forgiving feel.
Rail SKT The edge of the board. Also refers to plastic strips attached to the underside of the board.
Rail SNB There are tow rails on a snowboard; each comprised of a sidewall and an edge.
Railslide MULTI Also called boardslide. To slide on an obstacle or lip with the contact point being the underside of the board.
Ramp boards SKT Large deck and firm wheels mounted on wide trucks to make the board as stable as possible.
Rear foot SNB The foot mounted closest to the rail.
Rear hand SNB The hand closet to the tail of the board.
Regular foot MULTI To ride with the left foot forward.
Retainer / keppers SKT Keep the ball bearings spaced correctly.
Revert SNB To switch from riding fakie to forward, or from forward to fakie, usually while the board is still touching the ground.
Rewind SNB A term used to describe any maneuver where a rotation is initiated, stopped and its momentum reversed.
Rewind INL To complete the arc that a skater begins when coming off a grind or stall by spinning.
Rippey flip SNB Straight back flipping frontside 360 , with a method grab (Jim Rippey).
Riser SKT Plastic piece under the base of the truck to raise it for better wheel clearance. Often used with larger wheels.
Roast beef SNB The rear hand reaches between the legs and grabs the heel edge between the bindings while the front leg is boned. Also, the wrist is rotated inward to complete the grab.
Rock and roll MULTI A trick where the underside of the board and wheels are tapped on the lip before a kickturn to reenter.
Rocket Air INL A trick were you grab both skates with both hands, while skates are straight in front of the skater.
Rocket Air BMX When a rider takes both feet off the pedals in the air and places them on the back pegs, then returns them to the pedals before landing. Can be landed in this position also.
Rodeo SNB Turning frontside 180 while completing an inverted 360 rotation for a total of 540. A rodeo 720 is when you would turn frontside 360 while completing an inverted 360 rotation for a total 720.
Rodeo flip SNB Partially inverted 360 with a back flip.
Roll-in BMX A portion at the top of a ramp that riders can use to roll into the ramp rather than dropping in over the vertical section of the ramp. Often used to gain more speed entering the ramp and as a gap to air over depending on where it lies on the ramp.
Rolling down the windows. SNB A phrase used to describe when someone is caught off balance, and they rotate their arms wildly in the air to try and recover.
Royale INL Skater riders with the front foot on inside plate, back foot on the outside plate, toes pointed in. Brooke Howard Smith was the founder of the Royale. He 'royaled' the big rail on the first X Games.
Rubber dampening systems SNB Incorporating rubber into the construction of the board to dampen vibrations and provide certain performance characteristics.
Run MULTI A series of tricks in a sequence.
